Buchung & Ablauf
Ideally 6 to 8 months in advance. That way we can usually secure the desired gorilla permits without problems, the lodges still have availability, and we can plan everything calmly.
Gorilla permits in particular are limited – only a certain number are available each day. During the high season (July to October), they are often fully booked months in advance.
However, we can also arrange short-notice bookings. If you want to travel to Uganda in four weeks, give us a call. We will check what is still available and build a route around it. It might not be your absolute first-choice lodge, but we will find a solution.
Die Gründungsstory & Vision
Safari Dreams was founded by Rainer Bockmann and is still led by him today. Rainer’s journey to Africa began with a trip that changed his life – he caught the “Africa bug,” and it has never let go..
Before that, Rainer was already a tour operator, organizing sailing trips in Europe. But Africa was something different. The vast landscapes, the wildlife, the people – it stayed with him. Instead of planning trips from afar, he made a decisive step: today he lives in Entebbe, Uganda. His office is located right on site, in the heart of East Africa.
Safari Dreams was created from a simple conviction: travel to East Africa should not be dictated by catalogues, but by people who truly know and love these countries.
Rainer Bockmann deliberately chose to live and work in Uganda. If the Great Migration suddenly starts earlier in the Masai Mara, we know immediately. If a new lodge opens in Bwindi Forest, we have already visited it before it appears in German catalogues.
What makes us different:
Wir sind wirklich vor Ort.Because we are actually based here – not just on paper. We are truly on the ground. Our office is in Entebbe, Uganda – not Munich or Frankfurt. That means short communication lines, direct contact, and fast reactions.
We have direct contact with lodges, guides, and authorities. We personally know every lodge. Rainer and his team regularly stay in the accommodations we recommend. We know which lodge works best for families, which is ideal for photography enthusiasts, and which offers romantic settings for honeymooners.
Our drivers and guides are trained professionals. We do not work with random subcontractors. We personally know our guides, and our vehicles are maintained to high standards. Small groups, individual travel.
A maximum of 8 participants on group trips. Or completely private – exactly as you prefer. No mass tourism.
Our vision is simple: we want you to experience East Africa as it truly is. Not the Instagram version. Not the glossy catalogue version. But the real Africa.
That means encounters with local people who can tell you more about their lives than any travel guide ever could. Wildlife sightings that are not staged, but wild and unpredictable. Lodges that truly suit you – not the ones currently paying the highest commission.
We believe that a safari is more than ticking boxes on a checklist. It’s not about checking off the Big Five or taking a gorilla selfie. It’s about moments: the quiet eye contact with a silverback gorilla. The sunrise over the Serengeti as the lions disappear back into the grass. The laughter of children in a Ugandan village as you drive past.
Our vision is that you return home and say:
“That was different than expected – and that’s exactly why it was so good.”
Honestly? The feedback from our guests.
When someone writes to us after their trip and says, “That was the best trip of my life,” we know why we do this.
When guests send us photos from their gorilla tracking experience or from the migration and say, “I still can’t believe I experienced this,” that’s our motivation.
We regularly receive messages from people who recommend us, who come back, and who bring their friends. That’s not something we take for granted. And it drives us to keep getting better.
Every trip is different. Every guest has different expectations, budgets, and wishes.
Some want pure adventure with rooftop tents and campsites.
Others want luxury lodges with pools and gourmet cuisine.
Some are very active and want to hike through nature for hours.
Others prefer shorter distances and more breaks.
Our job is to find out exactly what you want – and then plan the perfect route.
No compromises.
No standard solutions.
But tailor-made travel.
Expertise & Erfahrung
Safari Dreams has been organizing trips to East Africa for over 10 years. But experience isn’t just measured in years – it’s measured by how well you truly know a place.
Rainer Bockmann has lived in Uganda for 11 years and knows the region not as a tourist, but as someone who calls it home. He knows which road becomes impassable during the rainy season, which lodge is currently renovating, and which guide works especially well with families.
That’s what makes the difference – not the number of years in business, but the depth of knowledge.
Some of our guides have 10 to 15 years of experience. Some grew up in the safari tourism industry, others started as rangers and worked their way up.
We do not work with beginners.
That’s what makes the difference – not the number of years in business, but the depth of knowledge.
Because we are actually based here – not just on paper.
Our office is in Entebbe, Uganda. Rainer and his team live here, work here, and know the people here. We follow developments in Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Kenya firsthand.
If something changes – road conditions, lodges, permit rules, or the political situation – we know immediately.
Each country has its own specifics. Uganda is different from Tanzania. Rwanda is different from Kenya. Infrastructure, people, and logistics vary greatly.
We know where flexibility is needed and where it’s better to book early. That’s something you simply cannot judge from Germany.
Being a specialist means: we focus on one thing.
No South America tours.
No Asia packages.
The biggest advantage: we are fast, flexible, and close to what’s happening.
If something goes wrong during your trip – a flight gets canceled, a lodge overbooks, or the weather causes problems – we can react immediately. Not the next morning when offices in Germany open. Immediately.
We have direct contact with lodges, guides, and authorities.
We test routes ourselves. If we include a new route in our program, someone from our team drives it first. We know how long the journey actually takes, where the best stops are, and where you can refuel.
We also have personal relationships with the lodges. That means when availability is tight, our guests are more likely to get a room than someone booking through an anonymous online portal.
And practically speaking: time zone.
When you are in East Africa and need us, we are on the same time.
No waiting until someone in Germany wakes up.
We only book lodges and camps that we know personally and that meet our standards.
Specifically, our team regularly stays in the accommodations we recommend. We check: How is the food? How clean are the rooms? How professional is the service? Is the lodge really as conveniently located as it claims, or will you lose an hour of driving?
We do not include a lodge in our program just because it pays a high commission. We include it because we are convinced our guests will have a great experience there.
The same applies to our partners – local safari operators, transfer services. We have been working with the same people for years because we trust them.
If a lodge declines in quality – poor service, neglected maintenance, or other issues – we notice and remove it from the program. It’s that simple.
Yes. We are constantly on the move.
Rainer and the team regularly visit new lodges, test new routes, and check familiar accommodations. This is not a one-time event, but an ongoing process. East Africa is constantly changing – new lodges open, old ones close, standards evolve. We need to stay up to date.
Our guides are out daily with guests in the lodges and parks. If something is wrong – poor service, broken facilities, food problems – we hear about it immediately. Our guides provide us with direct feedback.
When a new lodge opens, we inspect it before recommending it.
We only employ experienced guides and train them regularly.
Our guides are not random freelancers booked as needed. We work with a dedicated team that we have known for years. Some guides have been leading safaris for over 15 years. They know the parks inside out, know where the animals are, can read tracks, and recognize bird calls.
But experience alone is not enough. We train our guides regularly – in customer service, safety, first aid, and vehicle mechanics. A good guide must not only be able to find animals, but also know how to interact with different guests. Families with children have different needs than couples or photographers who may wait for hours for the perfect light.
We regularly collect feedback from our guests. If a guide is especially praised…
And very importantly: our guides are fairly paid. They do not work for tips alone, but receive a proper salary. This means they can take the time needed for their guests, take breaks when necessary, and focus on what truly matters – providing an outstanding safari experience.
Reiseplanung & Individualisierung
The biggest difference: we do not plan trips from a desk in Germany.
With a standard package tour, you book a ready-made itinerary from a catalog. Day 1: Arrival. Day 2: Safari in Park X. Day 3: Transfer to Lodge Y. Everything is fixed, no flexibility. Whether you are a photographer wanting to capture a specific animal or a family with children needing shorter days and less driving – everyone gets the same program.
With us, it’s different. First, we ask: What do you want to experience? How much time do you have? What matters most – comfort or adventure? Then we build your trip step by step.
You decide which parks to visit. We suggest, advise, and show alternatives – but you choose the route.
You select your accommodations. From simple tented camps to luxury lodges. We show you options, explain the differences, and honestly tell you what’s worth it and what is overpriced.
You set the pace. Some want to see as much as possible in 7 days. Others take 14 days and plan two nights per location. Both are possible.
Wir haben drei Hauptkategorien, aber innerhalb davon ist fast alles möglich.
Small Group Safaris (max 6–8 participants)
Travel with like-minded people, an experienced guide, and a fixed program. This is the most cost-effective option without compromising quality. Groups are intentionally small.
Perfect for: Solo travelers seeking company, couples valuing a social component, anyone wanting a high-quality safari at a fair price.
Private Trips with your own driver-guide
You have your own vehicle and guide, just for you. The route can be fully customized. Sleep in longer in the morning – your guide waits. Spend two hours at a watering hole photographing elephants – no problem.
Perfect for: Families, honeymooning couples, photographers with special requirements, anyone wanting maximum flexibility.
Self-Drive Tours with pre-booked lodges
Drive yourself at your own pace in a 4×4 from our fleet. We book all lodges, plan the route, arrange permits, and provide detailed roadbooks with GPS coordinates and emergency contacts.
Perfect for: Experienced travelers, road trip enthusiasts, couples or friends wanting independence.
We also offer special formats: camping with rooftop tents, flight safaris, or combinations – e.g., guided safari, then self-drive, then beach holiday.
First Contact
Via website, phone, email, or in person at a travel fair. We ask: Where do you want to go? How much time do you have? Budget? Must-have experiences?
Initial Proposal
Based on your wishes, we create a first route. Which parks make sense? Which lodges suit your budget and style? We provide a rough cost estimate – a starting point, not set in stone.
Fine-tuning together
The exciting part: we review the proposal with you (usually by phone or video call, sometimes email). You give feedback, we adjust, and send a revised offer – until you say, “Yes, that’s exactly how we want it.”Schritt 3: Gemeinsame Feinabstimmung
Final Booking
Once satisfied, you receive a detailed booking confirmation and security certificate. A 20% deposit is due. We then book everything – lodges, permits, vehicles, guides.
Schritt 5: Vorbereitung vor der Abreise
Etwa 4 bis 6 Wochen vor Ihrer Abreise bekommen Sie alle Reiseunterlagen: Detaillierte Routenbeschreibung, Kontaktdaten der Lodges, unsere Notfallnummern, Packliste, praktische Tipps zu Impfungen und Visa.
Preparation before departure
4–6 weeks before departure, you receive all travel documents: detailed itinerary, lodge contacts, emergency numbers, packing list, and practical tips for vaccinations and visas.
During the trip
You’re on your way, we remain reachable. Any problems, questions, or spontaneous changes – one call is enough.
After the trip
We collect feedback: What was great? What could be improved? This feeds directly into our work.
Ja. Absolut. Das ist genau unser Ding.
For photographers: Longer stays at one location to avoid constant packing, lodges with optimal morning light, guides who understand spending hours at the same watering hole.
For honeymooners: Lodges with private dinners under the stars, sundowners with savannah views, possible upgrades to honeymoon suites, more relaxation days – not safari every day.
For families with children: Shorter drives, shorter game drives, lodges with pools for playtime, more breaks, guides experienced with kids and able to explain wildlife.
Other special interests: Birdwatchers, adrenaline seekers (white-water rafting on the Nile, zip-lining), culture enthusiasts (visiting villages, meeting Maasai or Batwa, local projects).
Sicherheit
Safari Dreams is a Ugandan company. Under Ugandan law, we cannot issue German travel protection certificates.
For clients who require such a certificate, we have a partnership with a German tour operator. Through this partner, bookings can be made with a German travel protection certificate. This means your deposit and travel price are secured under German travel law.
Simply let us know if you prefer this option.
Short answer: we find a solution.
Before the trip: If something unexpected occurs – political unrest in a region, natural disasters, sudden park closures – we adjust your route. We are on site and know immediately, often before it appears in German media.
During the trip: Vehicle breakdown? We provide a replacement. Lodge overbooked? We arrange an alternative. Missed flight? We rebook.
The most important thing: we are on the ground. We can react quickly, have direct contacts, and know the people. In 15 years, we have never left anyone stranded.
Service & Betreuung vor Ort
Do drivers and guides on site also speak German?
In Uganda, we mainly work with English-speaking guides. German-speaking guides can be arranged on request, but this must be planned in advance as availability is limited.
In Tanzania, all our guides speak German. This is a major advantage, especially if your English is not perfect or you simply prefer to communicate comfortably in German.
In Kenya and Rwanda, English is standard; German-speaking guides are available on request.
Important: Even if your guide does not speak German, our central office communicates in German. If you have questions during your trip, you can reach us in German.
We are available 24/7. No answering machines, no “office hours from 9 to 17.” Truly round the clock.
You will have an emergency phone number that is always staffed. If something goes wrong at 2 a.m. – breakdown, medical emergency, lodge issue – you call, and a team member answers.
This is possible because we are on site in Uganda.
Specifically, we handle:
Vehicle breakdowns: we immediately provide a replacement vehicle.
Lodge issues: we intervene directly.
Missed flights: we arrange alternatives.
Medical emergencies: we connect you to doctors or clinics.
Our vehicles are checked in a professional workshop after every trip. Not just when something is broken, but as a standard procedure. Oil, brakes, tires, suspension – everything is inspected.
Additionally, every 5,000 kilometers, they undergo a major service according to manufacturer specifications.
Most of our vehicles are under 4 years old. The older vehicles in our fleet are in excellent condition – we never drive anything we wouldn’t trust.
All vehicles are 4×4 with all-wheel drive, mostly Toyota Land Cruisers or similar robust models. Tested, proven, reliable.
Nachhaltigkeit & lokale Verantwortung
A large portion of the fees we pay – park entrance fees, permits, concession fees – goes directly to conservation. For example, if you purchase a gorilla permit for $800, most of that goes to the Uganda Wildlife Authority, which uses it to pay rangers, combat poaching, and fund protection projects.
The same applies to lodges in private conservation areas. Many of the exclusive camps pay high concession fees to conservation organizations. Your stay directly helps preserve these areas.
We employ predominantly local staff. Our guides come from Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, and Rwanda. Our drivers, office staff, and local partners – all are local people. The money stays in the country.
We purchase local products wherever possible. No imported goods when local options are available. This supports local markets, farmers, and craftsmen.
Many lodges we work with run their own community programs: building schools, providing water, training young people. By staying at these lodges, you directly support these projects.
Yes. We support a school and a hospital in the Ishasha region of Uganda, right on the border of Queen Elizabeth National Park.
The school is in a remote area where many families earn a living through tourism – as guides, lodge staff, or gorilla-tracking porters.
The hospital serves the local population and tourists in emergencies. We help fund medicines and medical equipment.
These are not large-scale projects featured in glossy brochures, but concrete, small-scale initiatives that truly make a difference locally. We know the people personally and understand exactly what is needed.
