Planning an RV trip in Uganda requires some preparation. Road conditions can vary depending on the region and time of year, so it’s important to find out in advance when the best time to travel is for you. For Uganda, you should keep in mind that there are two rainy seasons.
A stronger one between March and May, and another one from October to November. Not all roads are passable during this time. There aren’t many tourists in Uganda yet. In most cases it is not necessary to pre-book campsites.
We will be happy to advise you on possible routes you can take. You can also find a suggestion for a possible variant below. When fine-tuning your trip, you should keep in mind that you should book the permits for the gorillas and chimpanzees as far in advance as possible.
Wo gibt es Stell- und Campingplätze in Uganda?
Camping in Uganda is possible in many places. Many national parks, such as Murchison Falls National Park or Queen Elizabeth National Park, have special campsites. There are also private campsites or campgrounds owned by lodge owners, which often offer additional amenities. For example, when camping on lodge property, you can usually enjoy dinner or sunbathing on the terrace or jump into the pool in the evening.
Wieviel kostet es ein Wohnmobil in Uganda zu mieten?
The pure vehicle rental per day is around €185 per day in the high season (December – March and June – September). In the low season (April – May and October – November) you pay €155 for camper rental. This includes all kilometers driven, camper equipment and fully comprehensive insurance (with a $1000 deductible) Excluded are: fuel, fees for parking spaces and additional insurance.

That sounds like a little adventure. Uganda is a country rich in natural wonders and culture. Whether it’s the snow-capped peaks of the Rwenzori Mountains, the impressive Murchison Falls, or the diverse wildlife in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park – Uganda has a lot to offer. But what makes self-drive travel in a camper so special? Enjoy the freedom to organize your day the way it suits you. Away from the tourist path, it is also a completely different way in which you encounter the local population and especially the untouched nature of Uganda: encounters full of familiarity and intimacy.
Possible routes for a motorhome road trip through Uganda
This approximately 21-day trip takes you through various national parks in Uganda and offers a variety of nature experiences with many animal encounters. After arriving in Entebbe, there is a boat tour in the Mabamba swamp, home of the prehistoric shoebill stork. We continue to Moroto and from there to the Kidepo National Park, known for its biodiversity. In Murchison Falls National Park you will see lions, leopards and elephants, among others, before heading to Kibale Forest, where chimpanzee tracking is on the agenda.
In Queen Elizabeth National Park, visitors can marvel at lions, buffalo and hyenas, while in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park the focus is on gorilla tracking. After a stay at Lake Mutanda (possibly with a hike or canoe trip), we continue to Lake Mburo National Park, where zebras, antelopes and crocodiles can be seen.
