Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi
After landing in Nairobi, your driver will greet you at the airport and drive you to your hotel. On the way you will get your first impressions of African life. Depending on your arrival time, you will have the opportunity to visit the Karen Blixen Museum or the elephant orphanage of the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.
Day 2: Drive to Amboseli National Park
Today, after a good breakfast, we set off for Amboseli National Park. We leave bustling Nairobi and head south on well-maintained roads. The park is located at the foot of Kilimajaro, you will be able to enjoy a fantastic view of the highest mountain in Africa. In the afternoon we visit a Maasai village and gain an insight into the nomads’ way of life and learn about their natural medicine made from trees and bushes.
Day 3: On the road in Amboseli National Park
Day 4: Drive to Tsavo National Park
Today’s drive continues in the direction of Tsavo. The western part of the national park is our destination. The lava rock of the Mzima springs and the Shetani lava flows make Tsavo West a beautiful, rugged wilderness. The savannah ecosystem consists of open grassland, scrubland and acacia woodland, belts of riverine vegetation and rocky ridges.
Day 5: A day in Tsavo West
Today we spend the whole day in Tsavo West. We visit Poacher’s Lookout, from where visitors can see the teeming herds on the plains below. Tsavo West offers great wildlife viewing, with attractions including elephant, rhino, hippo, lion, cheetah, leopard, buffalo, various plant and bird species, including the endangered corncrake and the near-threatened Basra reed warbler. We return in the late afternoon and enjoy the sunset.
Day 6: Border crossing to Tanzania
After a hearty breakfast, the journey continues today towards Tanzania. We leave the national park and drive via Tsavo and Voi in the direction of Tarakea where we reach the Tanzanian border in the course of the afternoon. After completing the formalities, we continue towards Lake Chala Lodge. The lodge is located above the crater lake and offers a fantastic view of the lake.
Day 7: Around the northern part of Kilimajaro
Early risers have the opportunity to take a refreshing dip in Lake Chala today. After breakfast, we set off on a tour around the northern part of Kilimanjaro. The route leads through small villages that are untouched by tourism. You have the opportunity to visit a school here. In the early afternoon we reach the Olpopongi Maasai Cultural Village. Here you will gain an insight into the traditional life of the Maasai and learn about their history and natural medicine. You then continue to your lodge on the edge of Arusha National Park.
Day 8: Game drive in Arusha National Park
This morning you start a game drive in Arusha National Park. After a short drive you reach the national park at the foot of Mount Meru. You will see zebras, buffaloes and giraffes, the colobus monkey can be found in the dense bushes of the Ngurdoto Crater and countless flamingos live on the shores of the Momella Lakes. In the evening you return to your lodge.
Day 9: Drive to Tarangire National Park
In the morning you start your drive to Tarangire NP. Once you have left Arusha behind you, the route leads along a well-maintained road to the northern entrance to the park. From here we set off on a game drive. The Tarangire River is the lifeline for the impressive herds of elephants and the various other animal species. With a bit of luck you will see lions and leopards, giraffes and zebras will cross your path alongside the elephants. The hilly landscape and the huge baobab trees will inspire you. You will spend the night in a comfortable lodge.
Day 10: Tarangire NP – Lake Manyara NP
After a hearty breakfast, we continue to Lake Manyara National Park. The park lies at the foot of the East African Rift Valley. With a bit of luck, you may spot the tree lions for which the national park is famous. The barely overgrown plain at the salt lake Lake Manyara offers you a clear view of the natural spectacle with baboons, giraffes, zebras, hippos and numerous elephants. Towards evening you will continue to your tent lodge where you can experience a fantastic sunset from a hill.
Day 11: Tanzania’s highlight – the Ngorongoro Crater
An impressive drive to the Ngorongoro Crater rim at an altitude of around 2300 meters lies ahead of you. Steadily up the East African Rift Valley.
up and over the hilly landscape of Karatu to the viewpoint into the crater. The crater has a diameter of around 20 km and is home to the highest density of predators in Africa. The drive then takes you into the crater, where you have all the wildlife Africa has to offer in a breathtaking landscape. In the evening we leave the crater and head to our lodge on the crater rim.
Day 12: Drive from the Ngorongoro Crater to the Serengeti
Today the journey continues towards the Serengeti. You will pass the Ngorongoro Conservation Area with its small Maasai villages and their varied vegetation, the small hills and extinct volcanoes Before we reach the Nabi Gate, the entrance to the Serengeti, around midday, you will see the first wildebeest and zebras and, with a bit of luck, lions and elephants. In the afternoon there is time for a first game drive in the Serengeti.
Day 13: Serengeti National Park game drive
This morning, after a night in the center of the Serengeti, the “Seronera Valley”, you will set off on a full-day game drive in the Serengeti. Your driver knows the best places to spot antelopes, reedbucks and baboons. The hippo pool with the gigantic hippos resting on acacia trees Leopards and lions are of course not to be missed either
