Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer from Entebbe Airport to Kampala
Day 2: Kampala – Kibale Forest National Park
After breakfast, the journey continues towards Fort Portal in western Uganda. You drive on well-maintained roads through the evergreen, hilly landscape with its impressive tea plantations. In the early afternoon, after a few stops you will reach the center of the Toro Kingdom, the small town of Fort Portal. Here you have the opportunity to visit the market for the first time and take a break in one of the small cafés. Then continue to your lodge in the Kibale Forest.
Day 3: Kibale Forest National Park, chimpanzee tracking – Queen Elisabeth National Park
Today you will visit the chimpanzees in the rainforest. Follow the tracks of the primates in the jungle with an experienced guide. Soon, with a bit of luck, you will reach the first animals, observe their way of life and have the opportunity to take photos. You will be back at the lodge around midday, after lunch you will set off on your journey towards Queen Elisabeth National Park.
Day 4: Queen Elisabeth National Park, game drive and boat safari
Today you start early for a morning game drive in Queen Elisabeth National Park. The extensive park lies at the foot of the Rwenzori Mountains, also known as the Mountains of the Moon. Lake Edward and Lake George are located within the park. In the national park you will go on an adventurous game drive with all that the African animal world has to offer. You will find lions, buffalo, hyenas and also the Kobe antelope, which is native to Uganda. The Kazinga Canal connects the two lakes. Crocodiles and hippos live here, as well as a large number of bird species, some of which can only be found in this area. In the afternoon you go on a boat safari on the canal where you have the opportunity to see these animals at close range.
Day 5: Queen Elisabeth National Park – Ishasha Game Drive – Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Day 6: The highlight of Uganda: gorilla tracking!
Bwindi Impenatrable NP is home to around 500 mountain gorillas, half of the world’s remaining population. The primates belong to the endangered animal species despite the number of 1,100 that have now been recorded. Tourism has contributed significantly to the fact that the animals are no longer persecuted by the local population but are protected. After a short briefing, you hike into the densely forested jungle with an experienced guide, a ranger and a few porters. Your guide will show you the tracks of the animals, answer your questions about the vegetation and soon you will be up close to the mighty animals. You have one hour to follow the primates, observe them and take photos. In the afternoon you are back at your lodge and have time to relax and reflect on the day’s experiences.
Day 7: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park – Lake Mburo National Park, game drive
Day 8: Lake Mburo National Park – Walking Safari – Drive to Bukoba, Tanzania
In Lake Mburo National Park there is the opportunity to take part in a walking safari. After breakfast, you will go into the park with an armed guide. You have the opportunity to see the animals up close. The guide will explain the flora and fauna and answer your questions – a great experience. After 2-3 hours you return to the Lod and start your onward journey to Bukoba, your first stop in Tanzania. From there you take off on a 30-minute flight over Lake Victoria to Mwanza. Your Tanzanian guide will be waiting for you at Mawanza airport to take you to your lodge.
Day 9: Mwanza – Serengeti National Park, game drive en route
In the morning, after breakfast, we continue towards the Serengeti. After about 1.5 hours you reach the Ndabaka Gate, the western entrance to the Serengeti. After the guide has taken care of the formalities, we head into this 17,000 square kilometer national park, one of Tanzania’s highlights. During the drive into the center of the park you will see the first wildebeest, zebras, elephants and probably also the first lions.
Day 10: Serengeti National Park, game drive
The new day begins with the unfamiliar sounds of nature, the view of the endless savannah surrounded by tranquillity and nature. The Serengeti with its varied nature, forests, savannah, rivers and unimaginably large wildlife is today’s destination. The guide will take you to the most beautiful places and show you the animals. You will be amazed by the variety.
Day 11: Serengeti National Park – Ngorongoro
After breakfast, you will set off for the southern part of the Serengeti. Here, too, you will have the opportunity to take beautiful photos of lions, elephants, the huge herds of wildebeest with the zebras that are always close by and, with luck, you will also see leopards today. You leave Serengeiti through the Nabi Gate and continue towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
Day 12: Ngorongoro Crater, game drive
Today you will spend the day in the Ngorongoro Crater. The diameter of this unique animal paradise is around 20 kilometers, the height difference between the crater rim and the ground is around 600 meters and the crater rim is around 2,300 meters above sea level. The crater is home to around 25,000 large animals, including the BIG 5 with rhinos, lions, elephants, buffalos and leopards.
Day 13: Ngorongoro – Tarangire National Park, game drive
This morning we continue in the direction of Tarangire NP. On the way to the East African Rift Valley there is a photo stop with a view of Lake Manyara, which is famous for its flamingos. In Tarangire you will notice the impressive baobab trees. The Tarangire River is the lifeline for the large herds of elephants that live here. Buffalo, waterbuck, zebra and impala also live here. The number of lions here is small but with a bit of luck we will see them.
Day 14: Tarangire National Park – Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO), Tanzania
Today is the last day of your trip, you enjoy breakfast in the countryside once again and reflect on your days in Uganda and Tanzania. The impressive nature, the experiences with the animals and the friendly people, all that is Africa. Once again, you will set off on a short game drive in Tarangire NP before continuing via Arusha to Kilimanjaro Airport. From here you can either fly back home or continue on to a few days on the beach in Zanzibar.
