Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport
Day 2: Vehicle pick-up – drive to Lake Manyara National Park
After breakfast you will pick up your rental car and after a detailed briefing you will drive to your next destination, Lake Manyra National Park. The park with the lake of the same name offers a variety of flora and fauna that is considered one of the largest on the African continent. You can enjoy the wildlife of Manyara until late in the afternoon. Then continue to Karatu, where you will spend 3 nights.
Day 3: Game drive in the Ngorongoro Crater
Today you have the opportunity to experience the BIG five in the Ngorongoro Crater. For optimal safari conditions, you should drive into the crater very early. In addition to the highest density of predators in Africa, you will also find an enormous wealth of herd animals such as zebras, wildebeests, elephants and even hippos as well as the rather solitary and rare rhinos. After a great game drive, you leave the crater in the late afternoon and drive back to your lodge in Karatu.
Day 4: Lake Eyasi and the Hadzabe Bushmen
A tour to Lake Eyasi is a good idea for today. Lake Eyasi is known as the home of the Hadza tribe (also known as Watindiga or Wahadzabe). The tribe lives in the bush along the northern part of the lake. The Hadzabe are a people of hunter-gatherers who used to live in parts of the Serengeti, but were displaced by stronger and more aggressive tribes.
The tribe still lives in the traditional way today, hunting game such as dikdiks and collecting honey. Their huts are simple, can be built in just a few hours and abandoned just as quickly. Like another people of hunter-gatherers, the San tribe in the Kalahari in southern Africa, the Hadza speak a click language. If you want to go hunting with the Hadza, you have to set off early in the morning. Spend the day with the tribe and learn all about their culture. After an exciting day, you return to your lodge in Karatu.
Day 5: Drive to Tarangire National Park
Day 6: Game drive in Tarangire National Park
Today, after breakfast, you can set off on a game drive in Tarangire NP. A huge number of elephants live here. The Tarangire River is the lifeline for the animals and the entire park. In addition to elephants, there are also lions, various species of antelope and giraffes. The hilly savannah landscape with its huge baobab trees and swamps characterize the park. Enjoy the fantastic wildlife and landscape on today’s game drive before returning to your lodge in the afternoon.
Day 7: Drive from Tarangire NP to Arusha
Day 8: Drive into the Usambara Mountains
The journey continues eastwards to the Usambara Mountains. Around midday you reach the charming town of Lushoto, once a health resort in the German colonial era. The inhabitants of Lushoto are known throughout the country for their warmth and friendliness, so it will be easy to make contact with the locals.
Day 9: Trip to the Tanzanian coast to Pangani
Days 10 – 11: Beach and blue sea in Pangani
Today and tomorrow you can snorkel or dive in crystal-clear water with turtles and zebra fish, passing corals, sea urchins and starfish. Enjoy the soothing tranquillity of the sea while fishing or on a boat tour, as well as kayaking, windsurfing or diving. Depending on the time of year, you can watch sea turtles hatch.
Days 12 – 13: Trip to Bagamoyo
After a hearty breakfast, you set off on the next stage of your journey. Today’s destination is the small coastal town of Bagamoyo. The city was once a colonial capital, but later lost its importance with the rapid growth of Dar es Salaam. Today you can feel the Swahili flair of the coast in a relaxed atmosphere and take a historical tour through the old trading port of Bagamoyo and the main coast or hike down the spit and explore the flora and fauna of the mangrove forest.
